How to select bearings

 Mechanical design basis of bearing classification and selection

 Bearings are widely used in the transmission system, and mechanical engineers are often contacted during the design. Its advantages include small friction resistance, high limit speed, low price and so on.

 When selecting bearings, our engineers should first select appropriate bearings according to bearing force conditions, speed capacity, noise requirements, installation requirements, etc. At the same time, the limitations of temperature and environment should be considered to select appropriate bearing materials and lubrication methods, and then calculate the life of the selected bearing model according to the design space size.

 Of course, the standard model of ball bearings is still very common nowadays. Most engineers are accustomed to obtaining CAD models directly through the parts library, which saves the time of repeated modeling and will be much faster in the actual design and selection of ball bearings.Today, we take the model of the parts library as an example to look at the common bearing characteristics. Let's take a look!

 Deep groove ball bearings

 Features: mainly bear radial load and are most widely used.

 Application: deep groove ball bearings can mainly bear radial load, but also run well when bearing radial and axial composite loads; its friction coefficient is small and is also suitable for high speed conditions; its structure is simple and easy to achieve high precision, so it can be produced in batches.

 Angular contact ball bearings Features: high axial bearing capacity.


 Applications: angular contact ball bearings have the advantages of high speed, high precision, low noise and vibration, and are mainly used in situations where deep groove ball bearings are not applicable.


 Self-aligning ball bearings


 Features: self-aligning function


 Applications: self-aligning ball bearings are suitable for situations where the shaft is prone to winding or the bearing seat hole positioning accuracy is poor in the long shaft, but due to poor rigidity, they are suitable for situations where the speed is not high and there are no strict requirements for noise and vibration.


 Thrust ball bearings


 Features: can only bear one-way axial load


 Applications: this type of bearing is designed for high axial load, low speed and high torque conditions.


 Sliding bearings


 Features: smooth, reliable and noiseless.

 Applications: sliding bearings are generally used in high-speed light-duty conditions.


 Centring bearings


 Features: there are generally three different arrangements: back-to-back arrangement (i.e. wide-side relative), face-to-face arrangement (i.e. narrow-side relative), coaxial arrangement (i.e. parallel).

 Applications: mainly used for bearing radial load, its nominal contact angle is within the range of 0 ° to 45 °.

 Thrust bearings


 Features: special bearings for bearing axial force. Application: mainly used in automotive steering mechanism, machine tool spindle, hydraulic generator, vertical motor, marine propeller shaft, tower crane, extrusion machine, etc.


 Combination bearing


 Features: a set of bearings at the same time by the above two bearing structure form combination of rolling bearings.


 Application: combination applications, such as needle and thrust cylindrical roller combination bearing, needle and thrust ball combination bearing, needle and angular contact ball combination bearing, etc.


 Joint bearing


 Features: large load capacity, impact resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, self-aligning, good lubrication and so on.


 Application: widely used in engineering hydraulic cylinder, forging machine tool, engineering machinery, automation equipment, automotive shock absorber, water conservancy machinery and other industries.


 Roller bearing


 Features: small starting moment, high rotation accuracy, easy to use and so on.

 Application: roller bearing is a kind of rolling bearing, is one of the most widely used parts in modern machinery.

 Needle roller bearing


 Features: roller bearing with cylindrical roller, relative to its diameter, the roller is thin and long.

 Application: suitable for radial installation size limited support structure.
