Deep groove ball bearing with seals or shields

Single row deep groove ball bearings with seals or shields are particularly versatile, have low friction and are optimized for low noise and low vibration, which enables high rotational speeds. They accommodate radial and axial loads in both directions, are easy to mount, and require less maintenance than many other bearing types. The integral sealing can significantly prolong bearing service life because it keeps lubricant in the bearings and contaminants out.Integral sea

Knowledge and introduction of bearings    :

Connecting rod bearings are a critical component in the operation of internal combustion engines. They facilitate the conversion of the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crankshaft. Here's a detailed introduction to connecting rod bearings:

  1. Functionality:

    • The primary function of a connecting rod bearing is to provide a smooth, low-friction surface for the crankshaft to rotate within the connecting rod. This allows for the efficient transfer of power from the piston to the crankshaft.

  2. Design and Construction:

    • Connecting rod bearings are typically made of two halves, known as bearing shells, which are inserted into the connecting rod's large end (big end) and are lined with a material such as white metal (a type of bearing material) to ensure a good bearing surface.

    • The bearing shells are adjustable for wear, allowing for the control of running clearance and side clearance, which is crucial for the proper fit of the bearing cap.

  3. Materials:

    • The bearing shells are often made from low carbon steel, while the lining can be made from materials like lead or tin, which are known for their ability to withstand high pressures and provide a smooth surface for the crankshaft to rotate against.

  4. Manufacturing Process:

    • The manufacturing process for connecting rods and their bearings involves forging, which shapes the rod and creates the necessary mechanical properties. After forging, the semi-product is annealed to make machining easier. The final machining operations are performed on CNC 5-axis VMC (Vertical Milling Centre), which allows for all machining operations to be completed in one setup.

  5. Assembly:

    • After machining, the bearing end cap is separated from the rod part using fracture splitting and then assembled with bolts and bearings in a rotary table assembly machine. The finished part is checked for cracks in a magnetic crack detection machine.

  6. Types of Bearings:

    • There are two main types of ends for connecting rods: small end and big end bearings. The big end is split to allow assembly on the crankpin, and a cap is fixed to the body of the connecting rod by bolts and nuts.

  7. Maintenance and Wear:

    • Over time, the bearing surfaces can wear, which is why the bearing shells have an adjustment feature to compensate for this wear and maintain the correct clearance between the connecting rod and the crankshaft.

  8. Performance:

    • The quality of the connecting rod bearing directly affects the performance and longevity of the engine. Proper alignment, lubrication, and maintenance of these bearings are essential to prevent engine failure.

  9. Applications:

    • Connecting rod bearings are used in a variety of engines, from automotive to industrial and marine applications, wherever internal combustion engines are employed.

In summary, connecting rod bearings play a pivotal role in the operation of internal combustion engines, ensuring the efficient transfer of power and the longevity of the engine through their design, material selection, and manufacturing process.
