Self-aligning ball bearings have two rows of balls, a common sphered raceway in the outer ring and two deep uninterrupted raceway grooves in the inner ring.  


They are insensitive to angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing, which can be caused, for example, by shaft deflection.

SKF 1318 Self-aligning ball bearings are designed to offer high performance and reliability in a variety of applications.


SKF 1318 Self-aligning Ball Bearings:

  • Design & Construction: SKF 1318 self-aligning ball bearings feature two rows of balls, a common sphered raceway in the outer ring,

    and two deep uninterrupted raceway grooves in the inner ring.

    This design allows the bearings to be insensitive to angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing,

    which can be caused by shaft deflection or other factors.

  • Performance Characteristics:

    • Misalignment Compensation: These bearings can accommodate both static and dynamic misalignment,

      making them suitable for applications where the shaft may not be perfectly aligned with the housing.

    • High-Speed Performance: They exhibit excellent performance at high speeds, which is a critical feature for many industrial applications.

    • Low Friction: The low friction of these bearings contributes to energy efficiency and reduced wear,

      which is beneficial for the longevity of the equipment.

    • Light Load Performance: SKF 1318 bearings also perform well under light load conditions,

    The seals are made of oil and wear-resistant synthetic rubber reinforced by a steel insert,

    with an operating temperature range of -40˚C to 120˚C (-40˚F to 248˚F).

  • Mounting Options: Tapered bore bearings are furnished with adapter sleeves,

    including nut and lock washer, with which the bearings can be secured to smooth or stepped shafts. They are identified by suffix letter K.

  • Extended Inner Ring Bearings: Self-aligning bearings with an extended inner ring are used in applications employing commercial

    ground shafting. A special bore tolerance allows easy mounting and dismounting.

  • Tolerances: Self-aligning bearings are manufactured to ABEC-1 tolerances.

  • Cages: Depending on their series and size, SKF self-aligning ball bearings are fitted with one of the cages shown in table 4.

    When used at high temperatures, some lubricants can have a detrimental effect on polyamide cages.
